A retro find in Basel

Krafft Basel

Krafft Basel, Switzerland

We’re delighted to share with you the KRAFFT BASEL, the latest indie property to join our collection.

An historic facade hides the clever 50s style with Swiss accents – a classic of modernism creating elegance through simplicity. Standing proud on the banks of the Rhine River overlooking the old town – this place is the epitome of utilitarian living – high ceilings, last century period ornamentation with 50s inspired interiors – complemented by the Swiss attention to detail.

If that has whet your appetite, discover it here

Looking forward to seeing you there soon.

ReDesign

Ralston & Bau. Tekannelampe

Ralston & Bau. Tekannelampe

In September 2009 Birgitta Ralston was asked by Fretex (norwegian salvation army) to undertake a concept and trend research project into the business of redesign. Part of this research covered re-design development.

A variety of possible future scenarios were discussed and re-design object samples made by Ralston & Bau where presented.  Their objects showed that by re-using objects and putting them in a new context, you not only make a sustainable impact but also give new life to objects that tell a story.

One of the first products Ralston & Bau designed is the “Tekannelampe” (tea pot light – pictured). To see more of their re-designs click here or pick up the November issue of ICON magazine.

Anthony McCall

Anthony McCall's light walls

Anthony McCall's light walls

Curated by Lars Nittve and Jo Widoff, the Moderna Museet’s latest exhibition brings the work of Anthony McCall to Stockholm.

In the early 1970s, McCall, who was born in London, was part of the British avant-garde, and his work included film and performance. In 1973, he started making the film series Solid Light, but later withdrew from the art world.

The beam of light produced by a cinema projector inspired Anthony McCall to produce works in a variety of styles and media of postwar art – including minimalism, film, performance and drawing. Moderna Museet will feature two large light installations from the 2000s and number of drawings from the 1970s until today.   The exhibition runs until 6th December 2009.

Get some more details on the exhibition over here.  If you need a hotel capable of matching the experience of your visit, then check out the Moderna Museet’s island neighbour the Hotel Skeppsholmen, or it’s sister the Hotel J on the waters edge in Nacka Strand.

Munchausen's Lego Kitchen

Munchausen, a duo formed by Parisian designers Simon Pillard and Philippe Rosetti, took a bold approach with their own kitchen by venturing to IKEA for the basic kitchen island and then spending the next week covering it with more than 20,000 pieces by another Scandinavian brand, Lego.
