Greulich Hotel. Culture Talks with Andreas Iten

iten-greulich

2010 sees the resumption of the Greulich Hotel’s Cultural Discussion evenings.

Set to the background of a 3 course menu, this special series is now in its sixth season.

During the series you can join illustrious guests from the worlds of Culture, Politics and Journalism for an evening of gourmet food and discussion.  The 20th January brings writer, columnist and Statesman Andreas Iten to the Greulich.

Andreas Iten lives in Unterägeri. After studying in Basel and Berlin, he taught psychology and education at the Teachers Seminar Menzingen. He was Ombudsman SBB, as well as president of the Federal Film Commission for seven years. In addition he was President of MAZ, the Swiss Media School Lucerne, for more than ten years.

Iten is a columnist for the Neue Luzerner Zeitung and author of many books. In 1974 he published his work “Die Sonne in der Kinderzeichnung und ihre psychologische Bedeutung “ (“The sun in children’s drawings and it’s psychological significance”).  In 2000 followed “Lust an der Politik. Von Stil, Anstand und Vernunft in der politischen Debatte“ (“Enjoyment of politics. Style, decency and reason in the political debate”) His last two novels dealt with more current issues: In 2006 he published “Gegengelesen. Ein politischer Bericht“ (“Proofread. A political report”). With his intimate knowledge, Iten looks behind the scenes of the Parliament, through the eyes of a journalist. In the 2008 historical novel “Der Schatten des Pfarrers» “ (“The Shadow of the Pastor”) he deals with the compulsory celibacy of the Catholic Church and the consequences of the expansion of its power. Andreas Iten is president of the ISSV (Inner-Swiss women writers and writers association).

The evening of culture commences at 18:45, and the 3 course menu including water and coffee costs CHF 75 per person.

Reservations can me made by calling +41 43 243 42 43 or via mail at mail@greulich.ch.

Do it in a group. Valentines Ideas Pt. III.

group

You know what? PAH! To these couples and romance hunters, thinking they’re the most important thing mid February. Even if you are in a loving, happy, adult consenting relationship then have you already forgotten rule number one? Don’t forget your friends. Having a city break with your pals doesn’t have to be as “profound” as sex in the city and the bonds with your peers should not be just about throwing a load of money at it – have fun, experience new things, laugh LOTS. Forget about having someone who will eventually turn you mad by finishing all the milk and not letting your cat in. Group it, who knows where it will lead if you’re all good looking enough.

We’ve got two hotels in particular that are perfect for rolling around with chums and pals. Metropolitan friends will compete on how urban and industrial their homes are, so get to grips with that mentality at the Greulich Hotel in Zurich. Lesic Dimitri Palace in Korcula, Croatia on the other hand, will make you’ll feel like the medieval “It” crowd. Both properties are intimate enough for you to take over completely with your friends, whatever time of year.

The Lesci Dimitri Palace in Korcula, Croatia offers you a perfect group activity to indulge in with friends this Valentines. Check it out in full over here.

Remember this Valentines…Its not just important who you do, but where you do them.

Get snuggly with your friends, and make the room smell like you’re all in love with some Art Nouveau candles.

Dirty weekend – Valentines Ideas Pt. II

dirty

Hotel rooms make people act as they wouldn’t normally. It’s a complete mystery why suddenly you “make love” like you’re being paid to. It must be something to do with the new surroundings and maybe something to do with the fact it’s a space filled with things to be bent over. Flicking through Cosmo and picking out some tips about nibbling ear lobes and dressing as a nurse are just baby steps in a world of possibilities. If you have a power-dependence, you like business and control, Hotel Omm in Barcelona was built for you with it’s mix of sophistication and sex – think suits and power heels.

Word association – Hamburg? What springs to mind? We think about getting naughty in East Hotel and no doubt you will to. It’ll be whispered to you over dinner afterwards “darling, do you remember Hamburg” and you’ll blush. I know you’re imagining that scenario and you haven’t even been yet!

The sexiness of the New Yorker in Cologne is hard to describe. It’s like a subtle pop-art picture of a naked girl that you saw once in a magazine from the 70’s, and it’s beautiful and you can’t stop staring at it and then suddenly you realise that you can go there and make love, or art, or make love to an artist and it’s confusing but that’s the sexiest thing about it. I’m glad you understand.

Remember this Valentines…Its not just important who you do, but where you do them.

See what the East Hotel in Hamburg has to offer in their “Long Valentines Weekend” special over here.
