Camilla Wellton, a pioneer of individual and independent design, is a firm believer that following one’s heart, intuitions and senses, holds the key to an accomplished life. The sharp and precise lines of her designs may be a tribute to pure and quintessential Japanese aesthetics, but her sources of inspiration and choice of fabrics reflect nonetheless the fragile sensibility that we are about to delve into.

AW 09
Based in Stockholm, Camilla Wellton officially launched her label in the autumn of 2009. Officially, because in reality her label had been growing within her since a very young age. She began making her own clothes at the age of ten, in an effort to express her individuality and creative flair, as she intuitively knew that garments are a powerful tool in asserting one’s identity. However, it wasn’t until she turned 25 that she realised that following her heart to make a living was a a realistic option. An introspective journey through the Amazons led her to interrupt her BA in environmental studies, in order to progress into entrepreneurial studies and consequently the foundation of Camilla Welton.

SS 10
Her homonymous label is a reflection of an analytical and empiricist approach to life, juxtaposed to an immense awareness of the surrounding natural world. Craftily constructed architectural garments are combined with only the best fabrics, which in Camilla’s case correspond most of the time to organic materials. She is not however to be confused with an eco-label, as elegance, design, and impeccable fitting take priority in creations.

AW 10
Her collections tell stories inspired by life experiences. Her AW10 collection Rise takes us through an emotional journey of love, hate, anger, and redemption. Unity is split into two, desperation takes over, only to be released by a sudden burst of light, and thus rebirth. Her next collection, Light (SS11) is the continuation of this journey towards a life unaffected by fear, in harmony with oneself and the surrounding environment.

Her showroom is located in the heart of Södermalm, Stockholm. Drop her an email, browse through her clothes, and don’t forget that each garment can be tailor made upon request (with 10% of every item going to the Vi Skoken agroforestry project in Africa).
Want to visit her showroom? Go it green yourself and go by good-old-fashion foot. Base yourself at White Line Hotels Edit Nobis Hotel — from there you can walk to Camilla’s showroom in about 30 minutes. And most other places for that matter!
