Blickfang Basel

BaselBlickfang_chamaeleon

Blickfang Basel opens next Thursday, April 23rd, so there’s still time to plan your trip if you’re quick.  Blickfang Basel will bring together 120 up and coming designers from the triangle of Switzerland, Germany and France presenting international furniture, fashion and jewellery designers under the roof of Basel’s E Halle.   Although Blickfang has been taking place in Zurich for 13 years, the show in Basel will offer, for the first time, the chance to meet with designers directly to purchase showpieces.  The goal is to function as a temporary cutting edge fashion mall.

A special exhibition will feature the work of collective REH4. REH4 is a group located in Basel with the goal of advancing their district, which stands for progressive, independent and subversive spaces, such as galleries, progressive spaces, and shop owners.  It will come as no surprise that White Line member hotel Krafft Basel is located right in the middle of this creative district.  Be sure to get directions to the REH4 Black Market, which will showcase the new work of design creatives in a “market of uniques.”

With a fantastic line up of side events the fair is surely a weekend long event.  The opening party is on the 23rd, but the real fun is on the night of Saturday the 24th.  The evening starts out with Pecha Kucha, which is often as hilarious as it is informative.  Dim Out: A Room of Deceleration is the next event before the Absolut Blickfang Bar from dusk ’til dawn.

In celebration of the event Krafft is offering a complimentary entrance ticket for the fair with a stay.  Why not make a long weekend of it – come on Saturday, enjoy the fair, pick up a few designs, brunch and a city tour on Sunday, and take the long way home on Monday?

For Blickfang details visit the website at: www.blickfang.com.  For more information about REH4, and a map of the shops and studios involved in the project, visit http://reh4.ch.

Basel Watch Fair

BaselWorldVillage01

Switzerland and watches, it’s a cliché, but a well respected one.  From the 18th to the 20th of March the biggest names in timepieces will meet at BASELWORLD.  Over 2000 watch, jewellery, and precious stone companies will converge on Basel for the festival to discuss trends, show off developments and of course, display the latest creations. Cabin Fever? Free yourselves this Easter.

J_Hotel_Exterior

Cabin fever finally driven you mad? You’ve been moaning, they’ve been moaning, You’re both lashing out at each other because you’ve not gone anywhere apart from Ikea and the supermarket and there’s stuff that needs doing round the house. It’s not their fault, their perfect. It’s not what you’ve wanted to achieve in 2010, you wanted to travel more and live life “to the full”. Take an Easter break before you kill each other.

The hotel room you choose is so important. So, which hotel we think you should stay in is a matter of what kind of couple you are.

If you’re a couple of media-lovers then Hotel Omm in Barcelona will be right up your modern street. Both equally as fashionable as you are well-travelled? Then the Lanchid 19 in Budapest will tick all your dapper boxes. Or, as we don’t all have our own summerhouses, try the warm and cosy lakeside Hotel J on Nacka Strand, Stockholm.

Diverse and hopelessly romantic? Then Krafft in Basel or the Hotel des Academies in Paris. However, what if you’re a new couple and you’re trying to avoid the obvious romance? Ca’Pisani Hotel in Venice might be appropriately placed for love but is so subtly seductive that it will put you completely at ease.

Enough of work, home, sleep, work.  Easter 2-5 April.

What is the deal with bunnies?

easterbunnies

If like us you’ve survived the freakish winter, the new decade slog at work, the tedious post New Year chats, you’re probably starting to feel a bit like robots. Yes? Then, do something about it. We might not be able to offer you hot hot hot, but we can offer you a change of scenery. We know how sometimes you can’t pinpoint what you want so it blurts out as “sun, oh god the sun, I miss the sun”. It’s maybe not just the sun. We need a bit of variation as going to a different supermarket or taking a different route home is a start but it really isn’t as environment changing as we’d like.

We’re looking out for your needs, for your welfare and happiness. Think of us as something between a shoulder to cry on and fun fascists.

Go away for Easter – you have no idea how happy it will make you.

Check out these tips for couples and with friends.
