You old romantic. Valentines Ideas Pt. I

krafft-basel_hollmann-beletage

Let’s face it, a restaurant on Valentines day is really 90’s. It’s time for us to stop being influenced by Friends and get on the high-class chic train and pay hard cash for our private little world for a night or two. Romance isn’t all baby voices and pictures of cartoons holding hands, it’s about being together, happy and enjoying each others’ company. So where to enjoy this best? Hotel J in Nacka in Stockholm has waterside, old school Disney romance or perhaps the 50’s subtlety of Krafft Basel in Switzerland with its lubricating wine bar? If you’re the sensual type, the Hollmann Beletage in the founding city of romance, Vienna with it’s natural feel will take your deep tantric breathing to new levels.

Remember this Valentines…Its not just important who you do, but where you do them.

See what the Krafft Basel has to offer over here, or go ahead and book it directly here.

Everyday is Valentines day over at the Hollmann Beletage, check out their Valentines offer here.

Spice the night up a touch with Coco de Mer’s Intimacy Kit that makes being on the outside, just as much fun as being on the inside.

For romance, we also suggest the Greulich Hotel in Zurich, Lesic Dimitri Palace in Korcula, Croatia and L’Hôtel des Académies et des Arts in Paris.

Jenny Holzer in Basel

Jenny_Holzer_Truism_Survival

American artist Jenny Holzer (b. 1950) is one of the most significant artists of our time. She has held exhibitions and presented art projects worldwide and won many awards, including the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale (1990).

Fondation Beyeler is presenting her first large exhibition in a Swiss museum until 24 January 2010. Incorporating texts she has written since the late 1970s, the show comprises important objects from various phases of Holzer’s career since the 1980s. The focus is on recent works, some of which have never before been shown in Europe.

On view are paintings and sculptures, as well as her famous LED installations, containing compelling combinations of overwhelming visual effects and memorable texts of a poetic, socio-critical, and political nature. The presentation is supplemented by a selection of works the artist has chosen from the Beyeler Collection (A. Giacometti, P. Picasso, K. Malevich, and F. Bacon). In addition to the museum space, the exhibition also extends outdoors to the public domain. Spectacular light projections on key buildings and sites in Basel, Baselland, and Zurich will be on view on special nights.

Conceived in close cooperation with the artist and the MCA, Chicago, the exhibition was curated by Elizabeth A.T. Smith and Philippe Büttner.

If you are planning a visit, the Krafft Hotel in Basel is a great base from which to see the exhibition from.

A retro find in Basel

Krafft Basel

Krafft Basel, Switzerland

We’re delighted to share with you the KRAFFT BASEL, the latest indie property to join our collection.

An historic facade hides the clever 50s style with Swiss accents – a classic of modernism creating elegance through simplicity. Standing proud on the banks of the Rhine River overlooking the old town – this place is the epitome of utilitarian living – high ceilings, last century period ornamentation with 50s inspired interiors – complemented by the Swiss attention to detail.

If that has whet your appetite, discover it here

Looking forward to seeing you there soon.
