CologneBridgeProject02

If you’re planning on being in Cologne later this month, you should think about getting tickets for Sam Mendes’ production of The Tempest now.  If you don’t already have plans to be in Cologne, maybe now’s the time to plan a trip to see this renowned touring performance taking place from the 26th through the 30th of May at Cologne’s celebrated Ruhrfestspiele.

This is the trans-Atlantic Bridge Project’s second season, and is already achieving the as much acclaim as the first season.  The project brings together Joseph Melillo of the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), the Old Vic in London, directed by Kevin Spacey, and Sam Mendes’ Neal Street Prods.  It is a project of passion, both for Mendes and the actors, some of which have turned down lucrative movie roles to work on the plays.

Mendes’ goal with the Bridge Project is to create an atmosphere in which the talent pushes themselves working in a classic repertoire.  Mendes is a world renowned director, who appreciates the challenge of reinventing classical works.  The project is stopping off in Cologne as a part of a world tour, and faces a barrage of bureaucratic nightmares associated with having a half British, half American cast.  Visa’ , work permits, the logistics of transporting the sets are only part of what has to be overcome to bring take the plays international.  This speaks of the project’s passion and the quality of the productions.

Whether you’re a theatre lover or not, this is a not to be missed event.

You should surround yourself with style and luxury if you’re seeing a play that’s filled with actors from the Big Apple.  White Line’s The New Yorker is more than just a hotel; it’s one of Cologne’s hotspots.  Their multi-levelled club is a chilled out post-theatre spot, and only steps from your Johannes J. Adams designed minimalist room.
