Savelletri di Fasano’s Simplest Pleasure

What constitutes a simple pleasure is sometimes a very personal affair. For some it can be the taste of the year’s first strawberries melting onto their tongue. Others, of course, might be allergic, or just have other sensations topping their list: the smell of clean laundry, a morning cuddle, or maybe watching the colors of a sunset cycle and dissolve accompanied by the perfect glass of wine, to name a few. Whichever way your personal tastes point, one thing remains the same — a simple pleasure is by its very nature simple, something that could happen every day, even unnoticed if the time isn’t taken to savor the joy it brings us.

What is simple in one geographical location, however, may be a lot more difficult, if not impossible, in another. It makes those pleasures all the sweeter, and could it even be the source of wanderlust? If the feel of sand between your toes is at the top of your personal list, as well as the taste of freshly caught and grilled fish, you’ll struggle to find anywhere as simple or pleasurable as Il Principe del Mare Ristoro.

At the family-run oceanfront cafe Il Principe del Mare, located directly on the beach between Savelletri di Fasano and Torre Canne, excellent fish and pasta dishes don’t hide in plain sight atop a fancy setting, nor do they need to. While the food served would hold its own next to that of a finer establishment, be prepared to be served with a plastic fork — the atmosphere here is all about the sea and the fish, both of which will leave you smiling, as will the prices.

There’s always room for simple luxury in life, whether it’s with your feet in the sand and a perfect fish in front of you at Il Principe del Mare Ristoro, or in the perfect Mediterranean minimalism of White Line Hotels Edit Masseria Cimino. If you didn’t get your exercise on the San Domenico Golf Course, try walking along the beach south from Masseria Cimino in the direction of Torre Canne. At around 5.5km (3.3 miles), you might work up an appetite on your way, but that’s only if you can be distracted from the gleaming Adriatic to your left. Get the location here.
