If you have not yet had the pleasure of staying at the Sanders in Copenhagen, best get in there pronto. For this award-winning hotel, with an already long string of global awards under its belt, continues to hit the headlines a year after opening its theatrical doors in the design capital of Europe.
Most recently in London, the Sanders scooped another two awards - Europe Hotel of the Year & Best Renovation and Restoration- at the glitzy AHEAD awards for Hospitality Experience - hosted by the bible of hotel design, Sleeper Magazine.
The formula for creating an award-winning hotel? Well, you need imagination by the bucket load, a well-travelled mind, have a little black book of those things you loved, be creatively playful with plenty of worldly intellect and understand theatrical parlance – cue local hero and brain-child of Sanders, Alexander Kølpin (pictured below).
A former star of the ballet world, filmmaker and director, Kølpin teamed up with Danish interior designer Pernille Lind and British architect Richy Almond of the London-based design studio, Lind + Almond to create ‘his’ hotel, crowned Europe Hotel of the Year 2018 by AHEAD.
By including a wealth of details from the past, the pair sought to create opportunities to remind guests of their own childhoods. "They may see a pattern or print that they'd seen in their grandmother's home," Lind says. "In that sense they feel at home through reference."
"A mingling hub for the local cultural and creative scene, Hotel Sanders' acclaim is owing to the consolidated design of LIND+ALMOND in collaboration with owner and visionary Alexander Kølpin. Murano chandeliers hang above lavish crushed velvets, bespoke furnishings and commissioned artworks, while guest rooms champion heritage tones, deep comfort and exclusivity," AHEAD.
Book yourself a room at Europe's Hotel of the Year - Sanders Copenhagen - before everyone else does.
We love it and congrats team SANDERS in creating an award-winning hotel and (y)our home from home, best design a new shelf for those ever growing awards.
