The Town Hall, once the seat of local council, has been transformed marking the conclusion of an epic restoration and labour of love.
The imposing building housed in its largely neo-classical style of the Edwardians has always been in a phase of transition. Each decade of style is evident; from the colossal colonial splendour to the accents of the art deco, the touches of the austere post-war modernists, to the functionalities of the 50’ & 60’s, the destruction of the 70’s followed by years of neglect, which too has shaped the place. So it is no wonder then that it is a compelling magical treasure trove of styles and a restoration piece of heaven.
At the heart of the East end, Bethnal Green has been home to every immigrant community since the middle ages, from the French Huguenots, the Irish, the Jews and to the more recent Bangladeshis. Bethnal Green is a melting pot whereby each community created a legacy of architectural styles, religious traditions, customs, foods and social scenes. This is the true face of London that makes it a worldly city.
