The setting is the old Donauhof Hotel in Vienna’s 2nd district, built in 1902 by architect Franz von Neumann, it was once the bustling hub for rail travellers complete with bars, a hairdresser, a casino and grand ballroom. For just a few weeks, these walls will become alive again staged in a modern and contemporary vibe, edged in old-time grandeur – expect anything from crystals to abstract artworks, golden dust to flamboyance and velvets.
The duo is re-known for their theatrical staging as much as for their stand-out foodie concepts – each year a new story board evolves, each year a disused venue is transformed and becomes their temporary culinary residency in the Austrian capital.
Indulgence of past centuries is given a new lease of life through a creative process of rethinking flavours and textures, through to that all-important sense of drama. For Barbara Eselböck & Alain Weissgerber this now annual event, in its fourth year, is a creative side-slip into a ‘Alice in Wonderland’ experience outside of the famous Taubenkobel Restaurant & Hotel in Burgenland’s Neusiedler Lake, one of Austria’s best kept foodie secrets.
