There is a distinctive signature of France's design hero Jacques Garcia and once you encounter one of his creations, you fall in love with his unwavering approach of 'creating atmospheres'.
With an impressive career spanning some 50 years, we feel he pioneered the 'design hotel' way ahead of the USA counterparts. His design is also timeless with a clever narration of heritage, opulence and imagination.
While he can give full reign to his personal, 18th century-inclined tastes for the many private residences he designs and furnishes, Jacques Garcia has worked on commercial design projects that often emanate a totally different atmosphere.
One of his high street outposts also include the familiar look and feel of French macaron specialist Ladurée, which lean closely toward Garcia’s penchant for classical decoration. Another icon of his, being the sleek white, marine-inspired interiors for the skin care brand, La Mer boutiques, which do not betray his elaborate hand at all, except in the fact that they are so precisely executed in order to honour his client’s wishes.
But there’s more. Jacques Garcia's well-turned design creations is also responsible for the industrial yet decorative d’Orsay condomium building in New York, the delightfully cheerful Maison Schiaparelli boutique on the iconic Place Vendôme in Paris, the luxe children’s clothing boutique Tartine et Chocolat, the dusky, Orient-inspired décor of the Wynn Casino in Las Vegas.
Each project Garcia takes on with his studio, he completes with passion – not unlike the prodigious energy he displayed when at age 8, he completed his first structure at his grandparents’ house.
Ever since, Garcia’s work has been testimony to his encyclopaedic knowledge of historical eras – as is apparent in his restoration of various living quarters at the grand Château of Versailles and the decoration of some 30 rooms in the Louvre’s Cour Carrée – and of superb insight in the psychology of both his private clients and the commercial public. Long may this design guru reign.
