Bordering Germany, Liechtenstein and Switzerland, Austria’s western Vorarlberg region is famous for its incredible skiing prowess, fantastic alpine views and also for holding the oldest and most influential ski club in the world.
One of our favourite skiing spots to retreat to when in Vorarlberg is the small but perfectly formed resort of Bödele. Hidden by a border of alpine firs and with fantastic mountainous views this small ski sanctuary makes you feel as if you are skiing straight in to the skyline, down your very own private ski run. With 24km of slopes - 9km of which are blue, 12km red and 3km black - the cacophony of natural snow and the nostalgic charm surrounding the old-fashioned ski huts ensures you could not find a more idyllic place to once again strap on the skis.
Gasthof Hirschen Schwarzenberg is one of our favourite places to stay in the area as it is not only near Bödele, but is also near the soon to be interconnected Warth-Schröcken and Lech-Zürs, too. Warth-Schröcken is 1,500 – 2,050km above sea level and has 340km of slopes, with 145km blue, 140km red and 55km black. With a ski movie track that records your descent and your speed, as well as the popular Steffislap fun slope with waves, curves, bumps and fun boxes, Warth-Schröcken opens up a new world of skiing fun and, dare we say it, you’ll feel like a kid again.
From December, Warth-Schröcken will be connected to other areas within the Arlberg region, Lech-Zürs and Alpe Rauz-St. Anton, creating the biggest ski region in all of Austria. All of which is easily connected by the introduction of five new cable cars – go, go, go, there’s so much snow waiting.
Should you find yourself in beautiful, world-famous Lech and at our favourite Hotel Arlberg, then you should be aware that there resides Ski Club Arlberg, the oldest and most influential ski club in the world. Famously drenched in sun and snow Lech attracts all sorts of skiing royalty, from celebrities to Olympic athletes, and with five unique and distinct alpine villages it is not hard to see why.
Boasting 280km marked slopes and 180km deep snow runs, finish your day at some of the most luxurious après-ski parties in the world – champagne for all!
Vorarlberg is one of the most sought after and distinctively brilliant ski destinations in Austria, and it’s not hard to see why.
