Hotel Der Seehof on Moorsee Goldegg is all about art, culture, food and the good life. This creative boutique bolthole attracts authors, artists, musicians & playwrites alongside foodies, nature lovers & simple chillers - they all savour this lakeside hotel's rooted character, hearty personality and crafted charm, made by the same family for generations.
Contemporary art and raw nature orchestrate these interiors of fresh country elegance, imaginative with modern notes. Crisp lofty whites, pastoral hues and bold backgrounds play host to Hotel Der Seehof's aged wooden beams and local accents. Plump cushions, deep sofas, well-turned books and a little dash of the whimsical sew an altogether chilled, comfy interior that is distinctive and timeless.
Over many years, Hotel Der Seehof has curated the 'artist in residence' to include both Austrian and international works, ranging from: Gerhard Richter, Maria Lessinig, Hubert Scheibel, Erwin Wurm, Peter Kogler, Tony Cragg, Franz West.
There are a couple of fabulous suites that capture the artistic dna of boutique Der Seehof, collaborations made by several creative spirits, for example: Angelika Taschen, Thomas Bernhard and a suite in blues called 'Helmuts', done by BLK River Vienna and featuring artworks from Erwin Wurm and Raymond Pettibon.
Boutique hotel retreat Der Seehof is, however, equally famed for its food, and the Restaurant Hecht is one of the hottest places to dine, serving foods from just a radius of 120km - including fresh trout from the Goldegg lake of course. This is an idyllic place for messing about on the water, late night chats with friends in the Bar Augusto Magnum, curling up with a book or out on the terrace under the shade of the chestnut trees, feasting on Oma’s freshly baked cakes.
Nearby golf and the mountains beckon activity junkies to explore the landscape of Pongau.
Hotel Der Seehof has the luxury of not taking itself too seriously, being more about the philosophy of the Good Life - full of Austrian heart, it is a lovely, lieb, snug retreat, carefully perfected by the family Schellhorn.
An idyllic place locally famed for its tasty food, Der Seehof has a subtle, gentle vibe - perfect for lazy afternoons, potting a few rounds of golf or simply messing about on the water.
Here, time simply slips on by at a slower beat, nestled amongst the chestnut trees and interrupted only by the waft of Oma’s freshly baked cakes.
A lieb, snug retreat by the family Schellhorn, Der Seehof Hotel is a den of simple escapism made with ease.
Delicious food runs through the heart of Der Seehof, it's part of their dna as much as their lakeside location is. HECHT! (trout) is the brainchild of the maverick Austrian Chef and co-owner, Sepp Schellhorn, who has a deep passion for creating a palette that is distinguishable, regional, responsible and innovative, yet authentic and familiar.
He coined the r120 add-on to the restaurant name - in his words "this is a philosophy where everything homeland comes onto the table."
Together with his sons, Felix and Johannes Schellhorn, also hot talents on the gastro scene, they pioneered the concept of sourcing the tastiest regional food to a radius of 120km from Der Seehof.
From the breakfast table through to light lunches out on the sunny lakeside terraces and to dinner - all the products were sourced by his team: "the fish is wild freshwater fish and the meats are used as a whole animal - using everything from the nose to the tail".
From their home-grown vegetables, delicious fresh rye bread baked daily on their own wood ovens to the fruits of the forests and gathered wild herbs - freshness and heart fuse this gastro treat - no wonder it is one of the top scoring restaurants in the Gault Millau and known as one of the best in Austria and beyond.
When you can trace your family roots in the same house back until 1740 – then I guess you truly know what home is all about. The enigmatic Schellhorns are at the reigns today and they continue to gently nudge style abode and boutique hotel, Der Seehof, on to new pastures.
Sepp & Susi are the terribly affectionate and charismatic duo - Sepp, an highly acclaimed chef, gastronome and champion of foodies and Susi, whose infectious smile ignites the whole house with freude, curates art & culture and has orchestrated the country-contemporary inspired interiors.
“This is a place where you feel just at ease – curled up with a book, a glass of wine lakeside or just soaking up the positive energy of this house – our house.”
The Der Seehof Hotel is in the Salzburger Alpine region of Pongau in Austria, and has a dreamy location on the banks of Lake Goldegger Moorsee - perfect for swimming, lazing & boating. Der Seehof is in the southern part of the Province of Salzburg (Salzburgerland), with the home of Mozart, the city of Salzburg being just over an hour's drive.
