Chunky rafters, planked flooring, toffee-apple linens, charcoals, deep chocolates, crisp whites, rose-petal pastels and opaque green panelling set the scene of utter calm and naturalness – meet the new addition to the family, Brücke 49 Herberge Vals.
An appealing restored traditional Alpine house, cosily wrapped in weathered timbers and a gabbled slate roof, hosts three new design apartments ranging from a top floor studio of 80sqm to two 125sqm family apartments. Affectionally referred to as the Herberge, spending your rest bite here is like staying in a stylish friend’s mountain retreat: a contemporary basecamp for those seeking independence, style and a place to call home when in Vals.
Naturalness headlines the interior narrative of design, clever simplicity and heritage – with statement Danish furnishings, antique quirks and contemporary fittings fusing modern Alpine living with slow-lane karma. In creating these unique holiday homes, the apartments at Brücke 49 Herberge partnered with Nordic makers like VIPP Kitchens, &Tradition furniture, Royal Copenhagen porcelain, Carl Hansen & Son, Morsø cast iron fireplaces, Skagerak and Copenhagen Joinery.
Each equipped with gorgeous kitchens, the fridge comes stocked, and the stove encourages you to fill the pantry with local farm-to-table bounty and prepare meals around the table, or just fill the cupboards with your favourite mountain treats.
Brücke 49 Herberge marries the sensibility of Danish design with Alpine traditions and a touch of Japonesque finesse: a kindred style remit of casual luxury in the little hamlet of Vals.
The "Stuba" feels like stepping into a collectors home. The living space of a creative and intellectual person who have seen the World and created a special place where everythings comes together in a classy, unfinished and stylish way. The logic and un-complicated layout with its well-made and carefully thought-out concept makes you fell at easy the moment you step inside.
The centre of the apartment is a roomy hallway with a really nice cast iron fireplace. Straight ahead is a large kitchen made by VIPP and a cosy dining area. On the left hand side of the apartment you’ll find a spacious living area with a dining table and a small ”library”. Keep turning and you’ll end up in the first bed-room. On the right hand side is the bathroom and to the back the second bedroom with equally king-size beds for your outmost comfort.
A kind of urban sophisticated living in the mountains. Like everything in Herberge your sense that its a house of affection. Everything is carefully curated and comes with a story of its own. Entering the apartment you’ll be greeted by the warmth from the wood burning fireplace in the centre of the apartment. Straight ahead is the brand new high end kitchen from VIPP in dark stainless steal.
On the left hand side of the hallway is living, dining and library and if you keep turning youll end up the first large bedroom. Kingsize double beds laid with anti-allergic duvets and clean handwoven linen. On the right hand side you’ll find the bathroom with showers and the second bedroom equally well equipped for a wonderful nights sleep.
Situated on the top floor of the chalet, the Stuba is overlooking the river Rhein and the village square. Except from bathroom and the kitchen, imagine one open space with the high ceilings' and massive wooden beams. The kitchen in the middle at the end of the hallway, is made by a local craftsman with design inspiration from Plain English and the bathroom from Duravit and Vola.
On the right is an open space night-time / private area with bed, cosy chairs, lamps, “library” and also access to a private terrace looking south toward the Zervreila. On the left is the living area with dining-table and comfortable seating / lounging area. The Studio is with original wooden clad walls from 1744 combined with contemporary design features held in a unique and warm colours scale.
