If you were to marry country-house-chic with the designer credentials of an urban retreat, then you would get what Cervo is all about - chilled, stylish and contemporary with hearty alpine attitude

A designer Alpine Lodge that stands in awe of the majestic Matterhorn, this place ties in the cosiness of mountain living pared with chic club house vibe.

The CERVO is youthful with great dashes of fun and modern interpretations of Alpine style. Here the perceptive owners have kept true the vernacular traditions of the Alps mixed with a healthy respect of the local naturalness - then you start to sense this smart lodge - modern takes on the original building methods blend seamlessly whilst rustic fabrics, materials and Alpine elements presents a youthful combo that is firmly embedded into the landscape.

Just as the setting, the Hotel & Chalets lends an undoubtedly fresh approach and is, in a nutshell, a thoroughly modern lodge mastered by traditions for both you, me and us.

Overlooking Zermatt in arguably the best location in Zermatt, the CERVO is opposite the elevator for the Sunnegga funicular and the ski run down ends virtually on the door step of the hotel's terrace.

Equally getting into town from the hotel is easy with the lift or a stroll into the main highlights of Zermatt and the train station.

Foodies already flock here to grab a table in one of the insanely popular dining options from traditional fondues to the infamous burger with truffle fries - from the cool chalet to the sexy off-piste terrace - there is a buzz of Zermatt everywhere you turn, so you know you are in the right place

The Cervo is the beating heart of Zermatt and as such it excels in the gastro scene with a couple of tasty options.

The breakfast is a treasure trove of everything local, a buffet and egg and muesli menu to set you going for a day in the mountains both in winter and summer.

Guests at the Cervo get to enjoy not only magnificent views of the Matterhorn, they also have the opportunity to sample some of the most exquisitely prepared food in the region.

With two distinct restaurants to choose from; Restaurant Puro serves up tempting but unpretentious cuisine in a casual dining experience recently being crowned as one of the best in the region.

Meanwhile hip sister restaurant -  Ferdinand, pays homage to a selection of hearty Swiss comfort food - expect original favourites like Fondues, Charcoterie, Raclettes and BBQ meats.

Should you get bored with the choice there's also the terraces and lounge bar serving bistro foods to keep you well fed during your stay in Zermatt.

Being so close to the Matterhorn is in itself as satisfying as curling up post Sauna reading a good book. Unlike so many Ski resort hotels where the Après-Ski crowd dominate the space quickly, here each of the chalet clusters has its own private Spa Suite - which means you are either sharing with just a handful of peeps - perhaps even your whole family or group of friends.

Each Chalet House sports a Sauna, an outdoor Jacuzzi - with views to the Matterhorn included, Kneipp foot baths, a fireplace and resting chillaxing sanarium zone. Massage is to order from a team of on-call therapists.

For the fitness junkies - the Cervo has sourced the best in personal trainers and they have created a programme of butt-busting workouts either indoor or in the great outdoors - this is training with a capital T. Cervo is not a Spa resort as such, however it smartly provides a more bespoke antidote to Après- Ski, mountain hike, berg cycling and adventure sport... tired little bodies with the right amount of rest-bite, and start all over again.

If you want it all private in the lap of luxury - opt for the designer Owner's Chalet.

Nostalgic Modernists could perhaps best describe the creative minds behind the CERVO and this duo that have captured the deliciously warming essence of rustic with the contemporary; meet Daniel and Seraina Lauber.

“When you can trace your family roots back through village life for more than a couple of centuries, you had better build something that the locals approve of, as you are bound to be related.”

CERVO is a culmination of the traits from their Alpine childhoods taken up a notch by travels and adventures around the globe.

They run the place like a country-club where everyone is a treasured member and you see them everyday doing what hosts do best – chatting to you.
